WINE OVERVIEW
Seta, which means "silk," is a wonderfully approachable Super Tuscan that pays homage to the Grignano family's deep connections to the clothing business. These are some of the only Cabernet and Merlot vines grown in Rufina, and the cooler climate brings amazing tension and freshness to the wine. Seta will appeal to traditional Italian wine lovers, along with drinkers who typically buy wine from places like California or Bordeaux. Its everyday price point makes it the perfect pizza wine!
Tasting Notes
The 2024 Seta is a bright red wine that is driven by fruit and acidity. Black cherries and raspberries mingle with plums on the nose. The tannins are soft and ripe on the palate.
Food Pairing
A versatile wine that pairs with a variety of dishes. Try with pizza, grilled meats, BBQ, hearty pastas and cheeses.
Tech Details
Owner Tommaso Inghirami described the 2024 vintage as "classic." There was just the right amount of rain in the spring and the summer never got too hot. "September was textbook perfect—sunny days combined with chilly nights, which is ideal for aromatic development."
Site: The Sangiovese for SETA comes from the same vineyards as the Rufina Chianti, which are organically farmed on the family estate surrounding the former Medici palazzo. The Cabernet and Merlot are farmed nearby, creating especially bright expressions of each.
Soils: Along with the characteristic clay, Rufina also has a higher percentage of limestone in the soil.
Fermentation: The Seta is fermented in stainless steel and aged in cement tanks to add texture to the wine.
