Founded in 1988, the La Carraia estate remains family-owned and 100% estate-grown, with Eduardo Gialetti working alongside his sons, Mauro and Marco, to carry the vision forward. The winemaking is led by renowned oenologist Riccardo Cotarella—recently awarded the Master of the Italian Wine Art medal by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni—bringing precision and depth to wines rooted in tradition.
La Carraia is a benchmark expression of one of Italy’s most beloved classic whites: Orvieto—an iconic wine that evokes the ease of al fresco dining in the Umbrian countryside. With origins dating back to Etruscan times, Orvieto is typically crafted from Grechetto and Procanico (the local name for Trebbiano). At La Carraia, fermentation takes place entirely in stainless steel, preserving the wine’s naturally bright aromatics and vibrant fruit character.
In addition to Orvieto, the estate produces a single-vineyard Sangiovese that offers a compelling counterpoint within Central Italy. While Cotarella’s signature style brings structure and depth, the wine maintains freshness and approachability—leaning toward the softer, more easygoing expression found in areas like the Colline Senesi, while complementing the lifted elegance of regions such as Chianti Rufina.
