An iconic 100% old-vine Malbec from the 80-year old Rosas Vineyard in the Uco Valley.
Deep, dark color—you could use it in an inkwell! Dense and concentrated but never loses its ability to exude the red and black fruits and spice that are the true expression of Malbec in Mendoza. This is a huge wine that is a blend of old-vine grapes from 2 of Mendoza’s most respected growers, located in two different districts. Only 4 barrels produced. While you certainly could drink this now, it will improve considerably with 3-5 years in the bottle. If you do drink it now, decant a few hours before drinking.
Try with meats such as beef, pork or chicken. Pairs well with aged cheeses.
Blackberry, pine-cone, bark and fresh-thyme aromas follow through to a full body with firm tannins that are wonderfully polished and balanced. Fresh finish. Such polish and beauty to this. It goes on for minutes. So enticing now, but better in a year or two.James Suckling April 2021
The 2018 Malbec Nico by Luca from La Consulta, Uco Valley was made with grapes from a 100-year old vineyard before spending 20 months aging in half new oak. The attractively delicate, fruity nose offers fresh plum, hints of rose and touches of sour cherry cordial. It's boldly expressive in the mouth with a flow sculpted a little by reactive tannins and chalk. The mild freshness adds to the volume and terse texture. The voluminous finish is enhanced by the oak.Vinous November 2021
The 2018 Nico By Luca Malbec comes from the Rosas Vineyard planted in La Consulta in 1939. It fermented in 500-liter oak barrels, 50% of them new, where the wine matured for 20 months, despite which the wine is not oaky but shows some spicy and smoky undertones. It has a mixture of flowers, berries and herbs. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and citrus freshness with notes reminiscent of orange peel.Wine Advocate March 2021
